Kerry Horan - Principal Psychologist - Trauma & PTSD
Kerry is a Registered Psychologist with over 38 years experience in private practice and working with a range of clients with disability in government and hospital settings. Kerry is extensively experienced in PTSD, working with victims of trauma (including sexual abuse) and is qualified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
Kerry has considerable experience working with adolescents and adults with very complex mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders and intellectual disability. She regularly runs a range of group treatment programs for clients, including: step-parenting; coping with trauma; and managing anxiety and depression. Kerry offers counselling for individuals, couples and families. Her approach is warm and welcoming, and she continually seeks to expand her training and expertise to best assist her diverse client group.
Kerry is a Christian Psychologist and offers Christian Counselling to those who request it. She has many years' experience with Elijah House Programs. Elijah House Ministries Australia is a non-profit interdenominational Christian training organisation committed to influencing our culture through the Word of God, teaching and prayer within the local Christian church and other organisations.
Kerry is our Principal Psychologist and successfully leads our team with her energetic approach and her ever positive attitude. Her clients often refer to her approach as if they are meeting a friend for a coffee.
Erin Hitzke - Senior Psychologist - Work Injury & Work Related Issues
Erin is a Registered Psychologist with over 10 years experience working extensively with couples, adults and adolescents who are suffering from depression, anxiety, acute and post-traumatic experiences, chronic pain, injury, chronic illness, bereavement, relationship and family difficulties, and work-related and organisational issues (e.g. bullying and harassment). She is a trained EMDR therapist.
Erin is extensively experienced in Workers’ Compensation issues, and provides adjustment counselling to clients who have experienced work-related illness and physical injury within all jurisdictions in Australia (WorkCover, Comcare, MRCG); as well as providing counselling to clients whose mental health injuries relate to workplace issues such as bullying, harassment, trauma and burn-out. She has legislative training, alongside workplace rehabilitation skills, and can assist clients in coping with and navigating what can be an otherwise distressing process.
Erin has extensive experience in coaching and training clients to manage their stress, set and achieve goals, improve work-life balance and regularly runs seminars on understanding psychological illness and using mental health first aid strategies to positively impact the workplace and beyond. Her primary counselling approach is to use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Brief Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Interpersonal Psychotherapeutic (IPT) interventions. Her style can be described as approachable, empowering, practical and solution-focused, teaming a bright personality with a professional approach.
Rossana is a Registered Psychologist with 25 years of experience in counselling those suffering from relationship issues, stress, anxiety, depression, adjustment issues and trauma. She has worked in General Practice as a Registered Nurse and Community Mental Health.
Rossana has obtained Psychotherapy training for Dissociative Disorders with the International Society for the Study of Dissociation in Northbrook USA. She has a holistic approach and employs a number of interventions: C.B.T., Gestalt, Brief Therapy, Mindfulness, EFT and others.
Rossana is of Italian background, is very fluent in the language and has a keen interest in community mental health and trans-cultural issues, including migrant and refugees. Rossana has been a Bilingual Mental Health Consultant with the Queensland Trans-cultural Mental Health Centre since 2008.
Rossana is qualified in premarital counsellor. She is trained and accredited in marriage education and FOCCUS facilitation, and complies with guidelines set down by the Attorney-General’s Department.
Rossana has a strong background in blended families and adolescent counselling and often holds courses on these topics. Rossana is a Christian Psychologist and offers Christian Counselling to those who request it. Rossana has a friendly and compassionate approach and assists her clients by implementing her years of knowledge and experience.
Gen is a Registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and secretary of the Psychoanalytically-Oriented APS Member Group.
Gen has experience working with adolescents to older age adults across a variety of settings including the private practice, hospital, university, and community mental health settings. She attained her Bachelor of Social Sciences (Psychology) with Honours Degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and her Master of Clinical Psychology at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She is currently working towards endorsement in the area of Clinical Psychology.
Gen is passionate about working with individuals who are experiencing mental health-related difficulties, which include: depression, anxiety, stress, interpersonal difficulties, grief and loss, and issues related to ‘The Self’ or personality. She employs an integrative approach, which means she draws from cognitive-behavioural, mindfulness-oriented, solutions-focused and psychodynamic approaches as she tailors a unique treatment plan for each client.
Gen’s therapeutic style is warm, understanding and collaborative. She believes in creating a safe and focused therapeutic space for people to work towards improved self-understanding and developing more helpful ways of coping, towards a life with increased sense of empowerment and authentic self-expression.
Talking to people, Yvonne is curious to learn about her clients' qualities, what works for them, and loves to help them to uncover their unique worth and value. She loves to help her clients uncover what they are passionate about in life, both in the counselling room and the broader spheres of their lives. She is interested in real conversations about everyday moments, not condescending words or labels.
Yvonne is experienced in honouring peoples' lives, and assisting them to come to terms with the changes experienced in grief. Before becoming a counsellor, she sang at ceremonies and memorials for many years. With a background in theological support, she can talk with people comfortably about their own spirituality expressions and spiritual needs.
Yvonne holds a Diploma of Counselling (expressive and narrative ways of journeying with people), and she has found that people are wiser than they know. She has a particular enthusiasm for music, words and all things community; as well as a deep understanding of the value of each human life.
Yvonne also has a passion for animals and has a special interest in helping those who are grieving the loss of their pets, she treats those who are suffering the loss of their pets with the same respect and delicacy as those who have lost a human family member, after all your animal is a part of your family.
Fran has been an integral part of our clinic environment at Good Counsel for 8 years. Together with Kerry, she has been a major part of the creation and operation of Good Counsel International. Her friendly and kind nature gives her an incredible knack for making clients feel welcome and safe.
Fran is our office dynamo, and is incredibly efficient and hard-working, with a range of skills in administration, accounting, medicare legislation, networking, financial management and marketing. She is also an artist, and provides her skills and talents within our office, providing our clients with a craft table where they can get creative while they wait, We really couldn't be without her!

The only male member of our team. but he does it with style! Jake joined our team in 2016 and has proved to be an integral part of our every day environment. Jake has completed his Honours Degree in Psychology at UQ and has learned a lot about his future career by working with us. Jake is completing his Psychological Supervision with Kerry and is also looking at a Medical career. Jake is great with our clients, super organised and always on time, he brings his great sense of humour to work which certainly improves the general feel of the office.
